Medical Update For Mary Johnston
A Trip Through AML Leukemia
Scroll to the bottom to read this from the beginning.
                                                                                          WBC=White Blood Cells   HGB=Hemoglobin   PLT=Platelets

January 2012  Mom's hair is coming in very well, looks great. She hopes to be able to do a bit of
traveling with Dad this month for a change of pace. God Is So Good, her next Bone Marrow test will be
next month. Please be praying that the test show no signs of the cancer!!!!

12-2012  MARY GOT TO RING THE LAST TREATMENT BELL!!! Praise The Lord!.
The Doctors decided that since her counts are not coming up like they should, her previous treatment
was her last. Bob and Mary both got to see their grandchildren for Christmas

11-22-2011 Mary had to go back to the hospital on Thursday, November 17, because her port site
was red and fluid was coming out of it.  Upon examination they discovered that the last stitch that held
the port in place had pulled out and the fluid was from the port coming out of her neck 1 1/4".  They
could not take the risk of pushing it back in due to infection.  They admitted her and a new port was
inserted.  She spent the night for observation.  Please continue to pray for the appointment on
November 28.  Pray that God will give the doctors wisdom when making the decision about the last
chemo treatment.

10-28-2011 The leukemia is still in remission.  They still want to do the last round of chemo to give
Mary a better chance of the leukemia staying in remission longer or completely getting rid of it.  She is
scheduled for November 7 to begin the week long chemo.  Her main doctor is out of town and his
associates, who want to do the last treatment, said that he will make the final decision when he
returns this week.  Our God is so good!

10-12-2011 Mary had both procedures and they went very well.  She is in a lot of pain and we will be
calling the
doctor if the headache persists.  The headache is caused from the spinal fluid leaking.  Please pray
that it will heal on its own.

10-7-2011 Mary has another doctor's appointment, to have more blood work done.  These results will
determine when her next round of chemo will start. Please pray that her counts are up.

9-27-2011 A Precious Couple from our Church visited the Johnstons for a few days this week
(The Houstons),  Please Pray for their Traveling Mercies as they are headed from St. Louis to Georgia
and then back on home to Clinton Arkansas.    They love to be an encouragement to the Johnstons.
AMEN!

9-26-2011 This past weekend I was informed that someone has been spreading GOSSIP that Mary
Johnston is not sick, the Doctors Miss-Diagnosed her AML Leukemia and that they are here in the
states doing nothing as if they were on vacation.  GOD FORBID that anyone would even entertain the
thought of saying such things, if you hear of such nonsense tell them to put an end to this SIN of
Gossip that is just as bad Spiritually as Mary's Leukemia is Physically.  If you have any questions and
wish to not be a bother to the Johnsotns  feel free to call me (Their Son-In-Law) @ 501-745-4261 and
I would be happy to speak with you.
James 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

9-23-2011 Mary seen the Dr. today and the next round of Chemo has been postponed for another 2
weeks due to her blood counts all being too low.

9-16-2011 Eric was released  from the Hospital, He had a bout with gall stones, Bob and Mary had to
be back in St. Louis on Wednesday for another Dr appointment. Please keep Eric in your prayers.

9-12-2011 Eric was taken to the University of Columbia Hospital. Bob and Mary has gone to be with
him. St. Louis is only 110 miles from Columbia. Please pray for both Eric and his mother Mary.

9-11-2011 What a busy day, Sunday, 10th anniversary of 9-11 and  we got a text during our services
that Eric has been placed in the hospital, please keep him in your prayers, this added worry is not
good on Mary as well.

8-31-2011 Mary's blood counts went too low and she is now back in the Hospital receiving Blood and
Platelets, her
WBC1.1 which is dangerously low.

8-27-2011 The Baker Bunch has to head home today, but the time spent here with Bob and Mary was
good quality time.   The Doctor's did say that Mary won't have to go back for her next Chemo
Treatment until the week of Sept. 19th.     So Praise God for some time off for her to gain a little more
strength.

8-26-2011 Dawn stayed with Mom and the Girls while Dad, the boys and myself went out to get Bob
out and about for a bit.  We had a Ball and met some very nice people.

8-25-2011 I arrived around 9:30 tonight and Boy was it great to see the Family!!!!! Mom is looking
good, Dad is looking "So So" hehehe, we are gonna have some great family fellowship tomorrow,
and we will have to head back down to Arkansas Saturday.

8-23-2011 Dawn and the Kids are headed up to visit with Grandma and Grandpa for the week, I just
got off the phone with Bob and the Doctors think that Mary's counts are high enough to let her leave
the Hospital tonight!!! AMEN, and we thought that the Family would have to go to the Hospital everyday
to be able to visit with her. God's way is always perfect, even when we think that we have it all planned
out!!!!!!

8-21-2011 Mary's PLT's have dropped low enough that they are giving her platelets right now, The
Doctors do have high hopes that this will work. Keep Praying Warriors.

8-16-2011  URGENT: Please pray for Mary ...she was rushed back to the hospital with a  temperature.
Blood work indicates an infection, and her immune system is compromised because of the cancer
treatments. They are treating the infection, but they need our prayers.

8-8-2011 Praise The Lord!!!!! Mary was able to get out of the Hospital today, This round of Chemo only
lasted 4 days and not the week + that it usually does.

8-4-2011 Mary has been able to start this round of Chemo today, Pray that she doesn't have the
complications that she had with the last round.

7-30-2011 Mary's PLT's weren't up enough for her to start the next Chemo treatment, so they are
having her wait for another week so she has some time to build some up on her own.

7-27-2011 Mary went in today for her blood work to see if her counts were up enough to start her next
round of Chemo tomorrow. And her platelets are still low. They are not going to give her anymore at
this time. Because the Doctor wants her body to make them on its own. That way her immune system
will be strong enough to handle the Chemo. So her next round of Chemo has been set back another
week. We all need to pray that she will make enough platelets on her own!!  God's in Control, and it's
His Timing.

7-26-2011 The Johstons left early today to get back to St. Louis, to get the preliminaries ready for
Chemo on the 28th. Please Keep Mary in your prayers as the traveling was good for her Mentally, and
Spiritually, but took it's toll on her Physically.

7-24-2011 WOW what a Sunday, we had a very special guest speaker and a close personal friend of
mine, (John Bishop) for our AM services, and then Bob Johnston for the PM services. What a
wonderful Sunday with 2 Heroes of the Faith.  I know that Bob was just ITCHING to preach too!!!

7-23-2011   WHAT A SURPRISE!!!!  We were between Visitation calls when a Truck pulled into our
driveway, it was Bob and Mary!!!!!   They just had to see the Grandkids before starting Chemo on
Thursday the 28th. and the visit to Mary was like a medicine the Doctor's can't give you,  AMEN!

7-22-2011 Please pray for their traveling mercies while they travel back to St. Louis in the next few
days.

7-21-2011 Mary is doing much better!!!  Bob and Mary are able to go visit with Eric and Stephanie
today  before her next Chemo treatment on the 28th.  This visit is much needed since the only places
she has been to is the Camper and Hospital.

7-20-2011 Mary was able to get some Medicine the Doctors can't give her tonight,  She was able to
go to a Wednesday night Church Service!  PRAISE THE LORD!!!   Personal Bible Study is always
good, but getting together with God's people (especially some that are praying for you) is a real
blessing.   I'm sure Mary's heart was touched in a special way this evening, Thank you Lord.

7-18-2011 Praise God Mary was able to leave the Hospital today!!!  Her blood counts are in the safe
zones. As for now her scheduled Chemo treatment will be on the 28th. God Is So Good.

7-15-2011 She is feeling better,  and is hoping to be discharged after this weekend, her blood counts
are stable.

7-13-2011 Mary is still in the Hospital, her blood counts are slowly going up AMEN!  She is still on
Antibiotics to treat the infection, Please pray that her counts will continue to rise and stabilize so she
can be released from the Hospital, and that this will not affect her next Chemo treatment.

7-9-2011 Mary's fever went down last night, PRAISE GOD!!! The Doctors did find out that she has an
infection which was the cause of the fever and the cutting short of the blood transfusion. More prayers
are needed as and infection during the time that her Immune system is low is very dangerous.

7-8-2011 Mary had to get more blood today, but they had to stop the transfusion because she started
running a fever 103 so she was placed in the Hospital, Please pray that her fever will go down and
her blood counts up.

6-21-2011 Not much has changed since the 17th, Mary will see the Doctor today, so we should know
more by this evening. We do know that if her blood counts are up to a satisfactory level, they will start
another round of Chemo Thursday, Please pray that they are up, Bob said that if this round of Chemo
isn't administered they will have to start all over again from the beginning. We don't want that.

6-17-2011 Counts are still low, Her hips are bothering her quite a bit today, and her energy is not up
to par.  Mary needs an extra dose of Prayerful Love sent her way today.

6-15-2011 (((PERSONAL NOTE)))
I would like to thank everyone who has stretched out their hands and hearts in love to Bob and Mary
Johnston. I love my In-Laws, I have seen God do great and mighty things through them both, and it is
at a time like this that Satan tries to get revenge on a vessel that has shined for the Lord these many
long years. I would like to encourage you to Pray on an even greater level for the Johnstons, and if you
can help be a blessing by means of an e-mail, personal letter or even a Special Love Gift, the
information is to the left of this page. Together we can make an impact.
Live for Christ, Honor God

Eagle Heights Baptist Church

6-14-2011 Mary's counts are still lingering low enough that the Doctors would like to postpone the
next round of follow-up Chemo treatments until at least this time next week. Come On Prayer
Warriors lets pull together in prayer for Mary's WBC, HGB, and PLT's  to rise to a level that will allow
her to keep this next appointment.

6-7-2011 God is already taking care of the financial needs!!!  We got word early this morning that
Medicaid will also take care of the month of May HALLELUJAH!!!  because a lot happened in the
month of May and it is truly a blessing to have that burden lifted, However, March 18-April 30 still has a
great balance that will be coming up due. God has the funds, it just still in the lives of people all over
this nation. PLEASE CONSIDER SENDING A LOVE GIFT to help bear the financial burden of these
great and faithful Missionaries!!

6-6-2011 Got good news!!! Medicaid has qualified Mary and they will take everything from June on
unless a Bone Marrow Transplant is needed then there will be an abundance of extra charges, we
need to pray in the money to cover the medical bills that have accumulated from March 18th - May 31.
God alway takes care of His own.

6-5-2011 Mary has been released from the Hospital today! Let's pray that all will go smooth for the
next appointment.

5-31-2011 Well the Blood and Platelets were just what she needed in addition to the Extra Prayers,
She is feeling much better now, The Dr. thinks that she should be back up to par soon. Brother and
Sister Houston took a trip up to see them and to be a blessing.

5-30-2011 More Blood and Platelets today, she is having one of the roughest days so far, Extra Prayer
today for Her Please.

5-28-2011 The Baker Bunch is on the road back to Arkansas, Mary's fever broke this morning and
Praise GOD they still can't find any Leukemia in the Bone Marrow.

5-28-2011 The Doctor came in to do another Bone Marrow Biopsy, won't know much for a few days.

5-26-2011 Mary was given 2 units of Blood and 1 unit of Platelets today.

5-25-2011 Mary had to return to the Hospital today, she was experiencing a fever of 101.9 and it was
on the discharge papers to head back in Immediately if it should get up past 101.0 So Bob and Dawn
took Mary on in, and Pastor Hal and the kids will go visit them in the Hospital this evening, PRAY!

5-22-2011 Pastor Hal, Dawn and the entire Baker Bunch is headed to St. Louis today, this will be the
1st time that Grandpa and Grandma have seen their Grandkids since they have been back. It's gonna
be like a Medicine in itself!!!!

5-20-2011 The follow-up Chemo Treatment is done and Mary has been released from the Hospital
today, Dawn is going to wait until this Sunday after Services to head back up as the Doctor said that
her immune system will bottom out again by Monday or Tuesday.

5-16-2011 It's back to the Hospital, But not through the ER PRAISE GOD, Mary is having her 1st round
of follow-up treatments, Little did we know that not each Chemo treatment treats the same areas of
the Body, Her 1st 24/7 aggressive drip was geared at her abdominal region and bones. This round of
Chemo will be more to the Head and upper extremities, The Doctor said that she will probably have
headaches, blurred vision and a very sore mouth.

5-2-2011 Mary is on a physical roller coaster as her blood levels fluctuate, She is however out of the
Hospital Praise God, the fever is at bay and the Prayers are still on the forefront!

4-23-2011 Mary got to leave the hospital today for the 1st time since the 18th of last month. AMEN!
She will have some follow-up Chemo in 2 weeks with another Bone Marrow Biopsy, Keep Praying!

4-14-2011 The word Remission doesn't mean that the recovery will be expedient, this will be a long
drawn out process, but Praise God that the Effectual Fervent prayers have proven true once again.
Dawn will be headed back to Arkansas tomorrow, It was good for her to be there for the Great news.

4-11-2011    MIRACLE UPDATE:  The Doctors just came in and told them the results of the
bone marrow biopsy.  The Leukemia is
GONE!!!!!!!  Mary is in remission.   PRAISE GOD!!!!
She will still need platelets and will need to stay in the Hospital until at least May 2nd and then 2-3
days per week for outpatient follow-up.  Continue to Pray for her health as she is still weak, and that
God would take care of the Medical Bills as they accumulate.

4-8-2011   It has been 14 days since the starting of the  24/7 Chemo Drip, and they have successfully
extracted some bone marrow from her hip "Praise God", now we will wait until the results come in
weather the Chemo is killing the Leukemia. PRAY, PRAY, PRAY!!!

4-6-2011    Mary has been given yet even more platelets, She has good and not so good days,
Stephanie is with Bob and Mary this week. Thank God For Family.  A dear lady from our Church made
some head caps for Mary, Stephanie and Dawn cut some of her hair last week and stitched it on the
front brim of the caps so she will still have some of her own hair used as bangs. What a brilliant Idea.

4-4-2011    Chicken Noodle soup is the only thing Mary can eat with the open sores in her mouth from
the Chemo, She has been placed on a Pain Pump which they are trying to regulate to her days.
Please pray that she will not acquire any infections as her immune system is dropping.
WBC:0.5  / HGB:8.5  / PLT:10

4-1-2011      Stephanie came in last night, and Dawn will be headed back to Arkansas today,
Traveling mercies are needed!!!.   Mary was up and down last night, She is having a hard time with
the Skin Irritations, and mouth sores that come along with Chemo. The 24/7  Chemo Drip will stop at
noon today, and they plan on trying another Bone Marrow extraction next Friday, so now is a vital time
for PRAYER as the Chemo given continues to lower her Immune System
WBC:0.5  / HGB:  / PLT:13 blood given

3-30-2011      Mary had a good day yesterday and a good night last night PRAISE THE LORD!
However today seems to be quite rough for her, The electric Blanket that Dawn gave Mary helps with
the cold chills that the Chemo tends to give.   The Doctors had to give her lasiks at the beginning of
the week because she is retaining fluids. This doesn't help the effects that Chemo does to the skin.
WBC:1.3 / HGB:9.1  / PLT:9

3-28-2011      Mary had a rough night and it seems to not be getting any better today, She is starting to
get the Cold Shakes that the Chemo is notorious for and to add to that, she has an infection in her
intestines that causes even more complications.
PM Just received a call from Dawn that Mary's Liver and Spleen are full of Leukemia, the Doctors are
hoping that the Chemo will attack those areas with positive response, Please Pray with us.
WBC:3.0 / HGB:8.4  / PLT:25

3-27-2011      Dawn will be headed back to St. Louis directly after Church Services today to take the
1st week shift of being with her Mom and Dad. And none to soon too! As the Chemo has begun to
affect Mary's stomach.
PM Dawn has arrived safely to the Hospital AMEN!!!
WBC:3.4 / HGB:9.2  / PLT:33

3-25-2011      Chemotherapy will start today. Dawn is traveling back to Arkansas to be with her family
and make arrangements for a Schedule with Stephanie to take week shifts to stay with Bob and Mary
through this trying time. Praise God that a Dear Pastor is flying in to be with Bob and Mary today, I
know that he will be a blessing to them.
PM The Central Line for the Chemo had to be placed on Mary's neck, the down fall to this is that she
can taste the Chemo and even the Saline flushes.  This makes everything Mary eats taste odd.
WBC:2.9 / HGB:9.8  / PLT:17 blood given

3-23-2011      Pastor Hal and the Kids are headed back to Clinton Arkansas for the kids to finish up
the rest of the School year early so they can go visit with Grandpa and Grandma Johnston very soon.
The Doctors went into Mary's hip to retrieve a bone marrow sample for biopsy, however they were
unsuccessful because the leukemia has already affected the marrow, so pieces of her hip bone
were taken until the Chemotherapy that they have planed to start tomorrow breaks up the leukemia
for another try at retrieving some bone marrow.
WBC:8.6 / HGB:8.8  / PLT:12

3-21-2011      Through many tests this weekend the Doctor's have concurred with the diagnosis of
AML Leukemia. Let's all fervently pray that God's healing hand will be upon this dear Lady. All
extended family members have been contacted and prayer chains have already been started all over
the world.
WBC:25.1 / HGB:10.1  / PLT:26

3-19-2011      Bob, Mary, Dawn and Stephanie were in the Emergency room all night, however with
Barnes Hospital being one of the Leading Leukemia Hospitals, they will run all necessary tests on
Mary through the weekend "PRAISE THE LORD"
WBC:36.5 / HGB:6.9  / PLT:17 blood given

3-18-2011      Dawn Johnston Baker, Eric Johnston and Stephanie Johnston Jamison along with
Son-in-Laws Hal Baker and Mike Jamison Picked up Bob and Mary from the St. Louis Airport. Mary is
very weak and will be taken straight to the Barnes Jewish Hospital Emergency room TONIGHT!!!
WBC:58.6 / HGB:9.9  / PLT:23
PM   Since Eric Johnston requires special health services himself, Hal and Eric will be traveling  back
to Northern Missouri while Dawn and Stephanie stays at the Hospital with their Parents

3-16-2011      After making a few phone calls, Pastor Hal and Family will be traveling to Northern
Missouri to be with Dawn's Brother and Sister and to make plans on everyone being at the Airport
when Mom and Dad land in St. Louis.

3-16-2011      We got a disturbing call from Mom J. this morning stating that they would be flying to St.
Louis on Friday.  The Hospital in Barahona Dominican Republic had diagnosed her with Leukemia.
Much prayer is needed for these Faithful Missionaries.
